The Ticket gig of The week

The Irish Times - Friday - The Ticket - - INSIDE -

Seated at a grand piano on a minimally lit stage and accompanied by cello and violin, Agnes Obel led a rapt Vicar St crowd from short, knotty instrumentals to bass-heavy catharsis on tracks from her Philharmonics album and her latest, Aventine. Obel’s songs, while often beautiful and intense, have a tendency toward the metronomic, so whenever a true peak was reached, it was usually the dynamic tension of the strings providing elevation.
