Linklater garage now a sanctuary

The Irish Times - Friday - The Ticket - - NEWS -

The story surrounding Richard Linklater’s superb Bernie gets stranger and stranger. Somewhat overlooked on release, the picture used real-life participants to tell the story of how Bernie Tiede, a much loved mortician, was convicted of murdering an ill-tempered Texan widow.

It now transpires that a judge has released Mr Tiede (played by Jack Black in the movie) to live in the impressively responsible Mr Linklater’s garage. A psychiatrist explained that Tiede, much abused by the victim, had suffered a “brief dissociative episode” and that “he doesn’t come across in examination at all as a person prone to violence.”

One assumes Linklater must agree. Otherwise, he’ll be sleeping with one eye open for a while.
