LED BIB The People in your Neighbourhood

The Irish Times - Friday - The Ticket - - MUSIC - CORMAC LARKIN

Cuneiform ★★★★ Who can resist a Sesame Street reference ? But if you’re thinking of butcher, bakers and candlestick makers, think again. The people in punk-jazz pioneers Led Bib’s neighbourhood are from the other side of the tracks, edgier, more dangerous, and more likely to mug you than help you across the street. The London-based quintet have been leading a full-throated charge out of the jazz ghetto for that last decade, but their fifth studio recording – the follow-up to their Mercury-nominated Sensible Shoes – sees them cast a few shrouds of mystery over their robust sound. It’s still has the danger and anarchy that has endeared them to many, but as they mature, they are signs that Led Bib are also discovering the value of subtlety. ledbib.com
