The Irish Times - Friday - The Ticket - - CINEMA - DC

A troubled parishioner, under cover of the confessional, threatens to kill a decent priest (Gleeson) in a week’s time. That core drama is overpowered by the clumsily emblematic nature of the protagonist’s perambulations about a townland that may as well have been called Little Irelandia. Everybody “represents” something or other. Gleeson’s touching, nuanced performance just about holds the disordered elements together. But Cavalry ultimately feels broad, nihilistic and lacking in reason. 15A cert, gen release, 100 min
