What’s Jameson on as your we walk rider? on A stage. cheeky shot of

What Beers, would an iDock be and on your Life of fantasy Brian on rider? DVD.

What’s Phoenix the in Lollapalooza, best gig you’ve with attended? a heavenly Chicago skyline in the background.

And the worst? World Youth Day – 1,000 people in a field watching the Pope. Tour bus bunks, hotel rooms or couch- surfing? Hotels all the way; we need our kip or John gets cranky. Who is the most famous person to have shown up at one of your gigs? Glen Hansard, and especially the late great Colm Murray (RIP), who was a big fan! Nicest man ever! Tour bus tunes? Which are your ones for the road? Coldplay, Hozier, Michael Jackson, Golden Slumbers. Chatting between songs – good or bad? Good, except when John says something like, “Hughie wrote this song about his ex who legged it off to Australia . . . ”

How big is your entourage? Three. Keep it nice and light, less mouths to feed.

While on tour, do you do your own laundry? Never have, why start now! Do you like to meet and greet fans after the gig? One of my favourite things to do. If it’s a festival we would always be in the crowd afterwards anyway, to see another great band perform. What on-tour luxury would you like the most? Hunting the Brave signature guitars?

What’s your best tour story? Once when travelling to Waterford for a gig we were pulled over by gardaí. As we were already late for the show our tone was quite peevish, and we ended up with a fine for speeding and two less ever potential fans.

Straight after we needed to drive down one of our infamous Irish country roads, which had a large tractor travelling on it. We spent 30 minutes cursing Nizlopi and his dad, watching the engine rattle their bums like berserk. We finally got to the gig to find the pub closing and a not-so-happy manager.

Turned out to be a great night, though, as they shut the doors, paid us in pints, and we jammed until the early hours of the next morning!

In discussion with Tony Clayton-Lea Hunting the Brave play The Village, Dublin tonight (Friday).
