Haynes falls victim to awards season
We have good news and bad news about Todd Haynes. With no spot for the great man’s Carol, an adaptation of an early Patricia Highsmith novel, in the autumnal schedule, it looks as if it will not premiere until Cannes next May. There is, thus, every chance that the distributors won’t put the thing before the general public until next winter.
Such is the tyranny of awards season. The good news is that Haynes is planning a biopic of Peggy Lee, the mighty jazz singer, starring a currently resurgent Reese Witherspoon. That actor is receiving great reviews for her turn in Jean-Marc Vallee’s Wild.
