DUBLIN THEATRE FESTIVAL Just when you thought it was safe to leave the theatre after the creative chaos of the Tiger Dublin Fringe, along comes the Dublin Theatre Festival to kick you back into the stalls.

The festival opened last night with five new shows (see irishtimes.com/culture for reviews), chief among them Thomas Ostermeier’s Hamlet (above). We’ve picked one a day in the panels below for the week ahead. Among them are: Louise Lowe’s final part in her stunning Monto cycle; one of the hits of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Ganesh Versus the Third Reich ; and the latest from one of the best companies in Irish theatre, Brokentalkers ( Frequency 783). We’ll have full reviews, news and features throughout the week, and a little theatrical surprise of our own that we’ll lift the curtain on tomorrow. See tomorrow’s Weekend Review for details.
