A great little spot in the village of Adare, you can smell The Good Room before you make it to the door. The great baking scent wafts down the street (every supermarket designer’s dream) as everything here is baked on site daily. The café is inside a pretty cottage which has been renovated but still has some of the original brickwork, and there is extra seating outside – a bit optimistic at this time of year. It’s an ideal stop just off the nearby motorway, and I sense they get a lot of passing trade. It serves the usual café fare of soups, salads, hot and cold sandwiches – with prices starting at ¤4 – but unlike many cafes that rely on passing custom, the quality of the ingredients is good and the food is fresh and tasty.
The real reason to come though is that baking. Cakes, croissants, scones, macarons, tarts… the frangipane and pear, and apple with custard tarts (¤4.50) are particularly good, and are reason enough to exit the motorway.
