This Cork restau­rant serves up se­ri­ous food with a sense of hu­mour. Head chef Kate Lawlor has been win­ning awards from all cor­ners for her in­ven­tive Ir­ish cook­ing at Fenn’s Quay. The menu is almost en­tirely filled with Cork food (and a con­ces­sion to a few in­gre­di­ents from “over the bor­der”). There’s beet­root and Cork Dry Gin cured sal­mon, Ross­car­berry ba­con & leek tart, O’Ma­hony’s col­lar of ba­con with cab­bage, parsnip puree and spiced wal­nuts (¤15.95), The Early Bird is great value, with three cour­ses for ¤23, and for those of us who don’t like desserts, you can sub­sti­tute it with a glass of house wine or a bot­tle of lo­cal craft beer. A clever move.
