Fine feathers will add a festive layer to your Christmas. Finish the look with reworked biker jacket and skinny jeans

Festive feathers are on our agenda this weekend. We met Jolene Callaghan to style a standout look for the upcoming festivities. Invest in some statement pieces, pair them with the old reliables from your wardrobe and you have a look that will turn heads.

The Irish Times - Friday - The Ticket - - SEVEN DAYS | GOING OUT -

1. Feathers: This beautiful piece is an outfit in itself. All of our wardrobes are full of black staple pieces – throw on this feather beauty and you have a whole new look. Sometimes we have to be brave and purchase items slightly outside the comfort zone but, as we can see from Callaghan, the result is a showstopper. Available from Topshop (¤112), or you could buy feather trim from WH Trimmings on Capel Street, Dublin 1 and make your own.

2. Jacket: “The biker jacket is my best friend. Everyone needs a best friend. It is the most versatile piece of clothing I own. My recommendation is that you buy a reworked one: the leather is vintage and beautifully soft, but it comes in a range of sizes, which is very unusual for vintage pieces. This piece is worth its weight in gold – it works year-round and is perfect for layering at this time of year.” Nine Crow Street, 5 Ormond Quay Lower (¤160).

3. Shoes: It is unusual to find a company dedicated to expertise in shoe manufacturing. Melvin-Hamilton is a Ger- man-based shoe company. Its designs are beautiful and although it usually focuses on men’s shoes, their female additions are on par to the men’s designs. Also, buying from these guys almost eliminates the possibility of anyone else having the same shoes as you. Vivien 5 Paston style from Melvin-Hamilton (¤169.90), melvin-hamilton.com.

4. Jeans: Dr Denim Solitaire high-waist jeans. “I think I might have found the perfect black skinny jeans, although maybe even saying that out loud will jinx it. They are very stretchy made from 98 per cent cotton and 2 per cent elastane, very high-waisted and have front and back pockets. The Holy Grail of jeans. You heard it here first.” Asos, ¤55.72. They are also available in Brown Thomas stores all over Ireland.
