In Re­mem­brance

DFA 3 stars The DFA ros­ter con­tains many crowd-pullers, but over the years it has also made room for less her­alded ad­ven­tur­ous souls, such as Delia Gon­za­lez. The Mi­ami­born per­for­mance artist has cre­ated idio­syn­cratic works in tan­dem with DFA regular Gavin Rus­som since 2003 un­der such monikers as Black Leo­tard Front.

In Re­mem­brance came about as a se­ries of pi­ano scores com­posed for ex­hi­bi­tions of ballet dance films in Naples, Cologne and Zurich. The mu­sic which was sub­se­quently per­formed live at a New York show­ing by Bryce Hack­ford and Alice Co­hen. It’s a beau­ti­ful flicker of sounds, each of the four pieces slowly coax­ing you closer to the speak­ers with its del­i­cate tex­tures and melan­cholic lay­ers. Each track has also been remixed and re­worked by Hack­ford, who adds a range of ef­fects and washes to to pull them deep into a left­field space.
