The Irish Times - Friday - The Ticket - - SEVEN DAYS - Jim Carroll 3Arena, Dublin 8pm ¤65.45/¤54.65 Tony Clayton-Lea Cormac Larkin

HOUSE Melodic Two old favourites play Melodic’s night out in the venue formerly known as Andrew’s Lane. When it comes to deep, dark house and techno, Spanish duo Los Suruba are at the top of their game, with much-admired releases and their ANTS party ready to rule at Ibiza’s Ushuaia over the summer. Ian O’Donovan is the Limerick man with the rising profile thanks to releases for Sasha’s Last Night on Earth, John Digweed’s Bedrock, Christian Smith’s Tronic and Adam Beyer’s Drumcode labels. Support from Dave Morrissey with Culture Shock and Squid Inc in the other room. SULTAN SWINGS BY Mark Knopfler and Band Since the retirement of Dire Straits, guitarist and singer Mark Knopfler has forged a solo path that embraces cinematic/rootsy rhythms, and guitar licks that flow like a calm, uninterrupted stream. Will the music be too smooth, however, for such a large venue? The fans say no! JAZZ Barrow River Arts Festival The annual anything goes festival on the banks of the Barrow is one of the hidden gems of the musical calendar, consistently bringing international names and diverse programming to the stately surroundings of Borris House. Curated by heavyweight husband-and-wife team, free jazz bassist Barry Guy and early music violinist Maya Homburger, this year’s roster includes adventurous ECM vocalist Savina Yanatou and acclaimed American pianist Marilyn Crispell.
