Best of Beck Six must-hear tunes

The Irish Times - Friday - The Ticket - - COVER STORY -

Death is Coming to Get You

An outtake from Beck’s unofficial, debut Golden Feelings produced during his very lo-fi, anti-folk years (my friend used to play it at parties).

Loser

Ingenious, ramshackle, folk-hop anthem and resented slacker millstone from 1994’s Mellow Gold (Beck released two other albums in 1994 – Stereopathetic Soulmanure and One Foot in the Grave).

Devil’s Haircut

Gets the Dust Brothers to help create a groovetastic, postmodern gem with 1996’s Odelay.

Lost Cause

Exorcises his heartache with works of straightforward beauty on 2002’s

Sea Change.

El Pro

Returns to the Dust Brothers and party music in 2005 with Guero (he also seriously injures his back making the video).

Morning

Lovely, happy-sad west-coast lethargy from last year’s Morning

Phase or, if you like, Sea Change 2.
