Style: Ghetto ‘This is England’ with a dash of Grace Jones and a pinch of Kylie

The Irish Times - Friday - The Ticket - - GOING OUT | SEVEN DAYS - Emma Fraser

This week we meet Joni Kelly, a DJ from Dublin. Her thriftshop chic style is a difficult look to pull off, but she does it with ease. She shows us that you don’t need to spend a bomb to look fabulous and that the sale rail is often where the best gems are found.

We asked her to sum up her personal style in one sentence and she came back with: “Ghetto ‘This is England’ with a dash of Grace Jones and a pinch of Kylie.”

Gladbach bomber, ¤38

“The bomber jacket I bought in Nine Crows when I went in there to buy stuff for a performance and ended up coming out with more than I needed. I wear it all the time now. It instantly adds shape and a rougher edge to an outfit. I like to mix girly with harder edges so this perfect.” shopninecrows.com

White Sandro vest, ¤65

“I have had this for years and years. Great to have some good quality staples that you will keep and wear again and again.”

Golf trousers, thrift shop, ¤15

“Got these in the local thrift shop about two years ago. I like to team them with hip-hop style trainers or more punk elements. Love the cut of them.”

White loafers, TopShop ¤10 on sale

These are wipe-clean. Winner for that alone.
