So of­ten, these star-meet­sor­ches­tra projects are like para­chutes pass­ing in the night, but when Nor­we­gian sax­o­phon­ist Mar­ius Ne­set ar­rived to play with the Lon­don Sin­foni­etta, he didn’t just bring his horn – he brought the mu­sic too. Specif­i­cally, he brought a set of charts that he had been work­ing on for the last three years – dense, ex­pan­sive, filmic scores which trace a me­an­der­ing line through 20th-cen­tury com­po­si­tion. The mer­cu­rial 31-year-old also had the good sense to bring his tal­ented quar­tet, with pi­anist Ivo Neame, bassist Peter Eldh and drum­mer An­ton Eger, who sup­ply the grooves. Above it all, one of the fresh­est and most in­ven­tive sax­o­phon­ists of the last 20 years is clearly en­joy­ing him­self, as will any­one with, you know, ears. act­mu­
