ART Tread Softly

Michelle Rogers. Rathfarnham Castle, Rathfarnham Road, Dublin Until August 9 rathfarnhamcas Amid-career retrospective of the work of Michelle Rogers, who makes bold, expansive, painterly treatments of contemporary themes, sometimes by reworking iconic classical paintings and painters, Caravaggio and Botticelli among them. Her portrait of Panti Bliss is directly drawn from Caravaggio’s St Catherine, and her Eco Primavera, after Botticelli, incorporates many plant portraits of endangered species. Her rough, broad-brushed technique and liking for large scale can also recall Anselm Kiefer’s epic, operatic ambition.
