‘I guess I don’t really care’ Carell on Oscar recognition

The Irish Times - Friday - The Ticket - - COVER STORY -

Care ll has successfully transitioned into Oscar-worthy drama, but he remains agnostic on the notion that comedy is overlooked during awards season.

“I guess I don’ t really care. Maybe you care if you start making movies to be recognised or to get critical ac claim. It might sound like a cliché, but I feel if there’ s a really good story to tell ora really good director to work with, then I’ m interested. Idon’t care if it’ s a comedy or a drama. I don’ t understand when people get het up about the fact that comedies aren’ t rewarded when awards season comes around. I feel you are really fortunate that you get to act, that you get to be in movies in the first place, that you get to create something that people might like to respond to. I think that’ s enough reward. You don’ t need any other accolades.”
