The con­cert opens and closes with Mex­i­can flavours, Aaron Co­p­land’s mid-1930s El salón Méx­ico and Mex­i­can na­tive Ar­turo Márquez’s Danzón No. 2 of 1994. The soloist in the clar­inet con­certo Benny Good­man com­mis­sioned from Aaron Co­p­land in the late 1940s is Christo­pher Mo­ri­arty-Pear­son (above), who runs a dual ca­reer as com­poser as well as per­former. And the con­certo is pre­ceded by Sa­muel Bar­ber’s ever­green Ada­gio. MD IS­LAND LIFE MacDara Ó Conaola with Pádraig Ó Broin Áras Éanna, Inis Oírr 8pm ¤15/¤10 099-75150 Inis Oírr sean nós singer, ó Conaola airs songs from his wide reper­toire, in­clud­ing his 2006 al­bum The Love To­ken. Tonight’s con­cert will in­clude a mix of un­ac­com­pa­nied and ac­com­pa­nied songs, with Pádraig Ó Broin on gui­tar and man­dolin, em­bel­lished by hu­mor­ous anec­dotes and sto­ries from his na­tive is­land.
