The Irish Times Magazine - - LAST DAYS OF SUMMER -

Having begun as of a pipsqueak biting at the heels of established European Heritage Days, Ireland’s National Heritage Week has established an eminent reputation, with more than 450,000 people expected to participate this year in nearly 2,000 events around the country from August 19th to 27th. Many are free and 75 per cent are hosted by volunteers or people who simply wish to champion their local heritage. There is particular emphasis on two days: Wild Child Day, August 23rd, is dedicated to fostering a love of wildness, and National Whale Watch Day, August 26th has free, guided whale watches at 20 headlands and vantage points.
