Aedín Gorm­ley is joined by Michael Gi­acchino, the Os­car­win­ning com­poser of scores for such films as Up, Star Trek, Mis­sion: Im­pos­si­ble III and Spider- Man Home­com­ing. Movies and Mu­si­cals ( RTÉ Lyric FM, 1pm).


Nobuko Imai ( right), a Ja­panese clas­si­cal vi­o­list with an ex­ten­sive ca­reer as soloist and cham­ber mu­si­cian, is to­day’s fea­tured artist. She’ll be heard per­form­ing works by Si­belius, Dvo­rak and Nino Rota. Aedín Gorm­ley’s Sun­day Mati­nee ( RTÉ Lyric FM, 1pm).


Si­mon Mayo ( BBC Ra­dio 2, 5pm) is joined by co­me­dian Jason Man­ford, who dis­cusses his move into mu­si­cal the­atre and the re­lease of his de­but al­bum.


The Late Date ( RTÉ Ra­dio 1, 11pm) in­cludes a read­ing by In­grid Craigie of Ber­nadette Cot­ter’s award- nom­i­nated short story Be­cause We Are Not But­ter­flies.


Michael Buerk hosts the first in a new se­ries of The Moral Maze ( BBC Ra­dio 4, 8pm). The fo­cus is on abor­tion, and in­cludes a de­bate with Giles Fraser, Tim Stan­ley, Claire Fox and Anne McElvoy.


The Full Score with Liz Nolan ( RTÉ Lyric FM, 1pm) fea­tures pian­ist Yu­lianna Avdeeva in ac­tion at this year’s Salzburg Fes­ti­val, play­ing mu­sic by Mozart, Mahler, Schu­bert, May, Wolf and Chopin.


Fri­day Night Is Mu­sic Night ( BBC Ra­dio 2, 8pm) pays trib­ute to Queen as the BBC Con­cert Or­ches­tra and their guests per­form sev­eral of the rock band’s big­gest hits.
