Vic­tory for Wex­ford clinches pro­mo­tion

WEX­FORD CARVED out a vic­tory over Antrim in yes­ter­day’s Case­ment Park sun­shine and clinched them­selves pro­mo­tion to Di­vi­sion Two next sea­son.

Wex­ford were dom­i­nant for most of the match and led 0-10 to 0-5 at the break, with Ben Bros­nan ri­fling over a 45 and an­other free­kick in in­jury time af­ter the Saf­frons had, out of the blue, closed the gap to three.

Af­ter 50 min­utes, with Barry, Bros­nan, Lyng and Banville busy in at­tack, and Molloy dom­i­nat­ing at full-back, Wex­ford led 0-13 to 0-7 be­fore Antrim, de­spite hav­ing Brian Nee­son and Justin Crozier sent off, ral­lied. Af­ter a five-man scyth­ing move, Michael Mag­ill fired a rocket to the Wex­ford net and when Michael Mccann pointed a minute later it was Wex­ford 0-14, Antrim 1-9.

Mccann hit an­other point 19 min­utes from time, be­fore the dou­ble dis­missal, but the Saf­frons’ only other score was a goal from a penalty by Mccann on 39 min­utes.
