Done­gal power past Gal­way to set up fi­nal meet­ing with Cork

Done­gal’s dy­namic duo of Geral­dine McLaugh­lin and Yvonne McMona­gle put Gal­way to the sword in yes­ter­day’s Di­vi­sion One semi-fi­nal at Markievicz Park – scor­ing 5-8 be­tween them in a 5-11 to 1-7 vic­tory.

McLaugh­lin scored an in­cred­i­ble 4-4 and McMona­gle added 1-4 as Done­gal, Di­vi­sion Two cham­pi­ons last year, qual­i­fied for their very first Di­vi­sion One fi­nal.

McLaugh­lin won and net­ted an early penalty as Done­gal led 1-4 to 0-3 at half-time.

The game re­ally came to life af­ter the break as de­spite con­ced­ing a fine goal to Roisín Leonard early in the sec­ond half, Done­gal were in the as­cen­dancy.

McMona­gle goaled in the 40th minute with McLaugh­lin’s sec­ond goal ar­riv­ing six min­utes later and she com­pleted her hat-trick with four min­utes of nor­mal time left. She bagged goal num­ber four, with two min­utes of nor­mal time left, when she con­verted an­other penalty.

Done­gal will meet hold­ers Cork who qual­i­fied for a tenth suc­ces­sive Di­vi­sion One fi­nal with a 1-16 to 0-13 win over Cork on Satur­day.

Orla Finn and Eimear Scally com­bined for 1-10, Finn top-scored at Nowlan Park with a haul of 0-7, in­clud­ing four points from play, as Scally col­lected 1-3 from play.

Cork were 1-10 to 0-6 clear at half-time.
