No big screen event for Castlebar

A decision to shelve plans to show the All-Ireland SFC on a big screen at a public venue in Castlebar, similar to that installed in Galway’s Eyre Square for the hurling final, has prompted a furious social media reaction. “Logistics and time are against us with our proposal to screen the All-Ireland final on a big screen at the Mall, so we’re calling it off,” a spokesman for the local traders group told the Connaught Telegraph.

It is understood the main difficulties related to stewarding, security and insurance. “The business people of Castlebar, the county board, the county council, hang your heads in shame,” was one of many even-handed Facebook commentsstory.
