Castlebar pull away after Mohill challenge

The Irish Times - Monday - Sport - - Gaelic Games -

A late surge from Mayo champions Castlebar Mitchels, which saw them score seven unanswered points, finally saw off the stubborn challenge of Mohill in this Connacht SFC quarter-final at MacHale Park, Castlebar on Saturday.

The sides were tied at 0-9 apiece and the three-in-a-row conquering Mitchels looking a little uneasy, but led by Ger McDonagh, who kicked the lead point, and man of the match, Neil Douglas, who picked off three points, it was Castlebar who finally eased into a semi-final meeting with Sligo champions Tourlestrane at the same venue next Sunday.

Castlebar led by 0-7 to 0-5 at half-time but Mohill came from being two down to go 0-5 to 0-4 ahead, the lead point scored by Keith Keegan who might well have had a goal.

Mitchels extended that lead to four with Barry Moran and Danny Kirby on target but Mohill hit the next four plaints, Keith Beirne, Oisín Madden, Ronan, Kennedy and Beirne again squaring the tie with15 minutes remaining.
