Onana not for keeps at Ajax

The Irish Times - Monday - Sport - - Soccer - Mary Hannigan

Ajax’s Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana’s contract doesn’t run out until 2021 but it hasn’t stopped the 22-year-old being linked with large-ish clubs around Europe.

Has Onana dismissed the speculation, kissed his Ajax badge and made a pledge of honour that he’s going nowhere? Not quite. “I can stay and try to be champion next season, but if something better comes I’ll be away,” he said. “I think it’s important to look at my own career, I’m ready for my next step with a new challenge.” And what is he doing to further his chances of departing ? He’s sharing his feelings about the running of the club following their 3-0 defeat to PSV Eindhoven, which sealed the title for their beloved rivals. “That this happens is not only the fault of the manager [Erik Ten Hag], because I know that the media will spread negativity about him. Marc Overmars [Director of Football] and Edwin van der Sar [CEO], they are all equally responsible for making us play s**t.” You get the sense that Andre will indeed be moving on. Quite soon.
