Gal­way’s Coláiste Iognáid tri­umph at Schools’ Re­gatta

Coláiste Iognáid from Gal­way won the men’s eights at both un­der-23 and ju­nior 16 level at the huge Ir­ish Schools’ Re­gatta at O’Brien’s Bridge yes­ter­day and came out on top over­all of the 72 schools which en­tered.

The top sin­gle sculler on the day was Jack Dor­ney of St Fran­cis. The big Cork man is set to rep­re­sent Ire­land at ju­nior level this year.

St Brigid’s, Kil­lar­ney, came home fastest in the women’s un­der-23 eights and were sec­ond best school over­all. Col­eraine Gram­mar School took the un­der-16 eights and had the top un­der-23 sculler in Molly Curry, who is also an out­stand­ing swim­mer, and an Ir­ish cham­pion at un­der­age.

Lim­er­ick Re­gatta, at the same venue on Satur­day, saw Muck­ross emerge as the top men’s club eight. Gal­way Row­ing Club won the women’s in­ter­me­di­ate eight. Kealan Man­nix of the Univer­sity of Lim­er­ick was the top sin­gle sculler.
