McMahon’s heroics scupper final plans
Spare a thought for the diehard Limerick fans who missed out on their All-Ireland final appearance due to prior commitments at the World Handball Championships in Minnesota.
For one of them, though, it was worth it.
Martina McMahon (right), who explained on these pages last week that she packed in camogie after winning a National League with Limerick to concentrate on handball, is now the number one player in the world following her Women’s Open Singles success yesterday 21-18, 21-12 over Catriona Casey). Her final served off just after 4pm, too, meaning many of the Treaty contingent actually missed the second half of the hurling! That’s dedication.
