Ire­land take gold in Euro­peans

Ire­land won team gold at the Euro­pean show jump­ing championships in Gothen­burg, Swe­den fol­low­ing last night’s second team com­pe­ti­tion. Cork-born Shane Sweet­nam was first of the trio to jump and, for much of the com­pe­ti­tion, he was in the lead in­di­vid­u­ally with his own and Spy Coast Farm’s 11-year-old Chacco stal­lion Chaqui Z. It was only in the later stages that he was over­taken. Mean­while, clear rounds by both Tip­per­ary-born De­nis Lynch on Thomas Strau­mann’s 14-year-old stal­lion All Star 5 and Co Meath’s Cian O’Con­nor on Good Luck, the 11-year-old Can­turo stal­lion owned by Adena Springs and Ron­noco Jump, saw Ire­land, un­der team man­ager Ro­drigo Pes­soa, claim gold on a team to­tal of 12.11 points.
