Murphy to compete in Ocean Race
Ireland’s Rio 2016 Silver medallist Annalise Murphy has been confirmed as a crew-member for the 45,000 nautical mile Volvo Ocean Race that begins in Alicante in five weeks time.
The 27-year old will compete with Dee Caffari’s Turn the Tide on Plastic team. Their VO65 was previously known as Vestas in the last race and was substantially rebuilt after running aground on a remote Pacific Island.
Murphy pulled out of last month’s Laser Radial World Championships – her Olympic discipline – due to a knee injury.
She has now suspended campaigning for Tokyo 2020 and recently completed her mandatory Sea Survival and Yachtmaster training for the round the world race.
