Mur­phy to com­pete in Ocean Race

Ire­land’s Rio 2016 Sil­ver medal­list Annalise Mur­phy has been con­firmed as a crew-mem­ber for the 45,000 nau­ti­cal mile Volvo Ocean Race that be­gins in Ali­cante in five weeks time.

The 27-year old will com­pete with Dee Caf­fari’s Turn the Tide on Plas­tic team. Their VO65 was pre­vi­ously known as Ves­tas in the last race and was sub­stan­tially re­built after run­ning aground on a re­mote Pa­cific Is­land.

Mur­phy pulled out of last month’s Laser Ra­dial World Cham­pi­onships – her Olympic dis­ci­pline – due to a knee in­jury.

She has now sus­pended cam­paign­ing for Tokyo 2020 and re­cently com­pleted her manda­tory Sea Sur­vival and Yacht­mas­ter train­ing for the round the world race.
