Galway prevail in relegation six-pointer
Galway United continued their brilliant recovery and kept their survival hopes alive as they defeated fellow strugglers Sligo Rovers at Eamonn Deacy Park.
It was a huge result for Shane Keegan’s side after Marc Ludden had cancelled out Kyle Callan-McFadden’s early goal.
It was 1-1 at half-time and Kevin Devaney scored against his former side before Gavin Holohan sealed the win.
Sligo took the lead early after Ronan Murray hit the crossbar from a free-kick up the other end. Regan Donelon sent a free-kick into the Galway penalty area in the 15th minute and Callan-McFadden profited from Greg Moorhouse’s flick on to score.
Jamie McDonagh’s shot came back off the crossbar shortly after and Ludden equalised in the 44th minute after the assist from Holohan.
In front of a bumper 2,117 crowd, Devaney scored a stunning goal in the 72rd minute before Holohan added a third three minutes later.
