The Irish Times - Thursday - Property - - Interiors -

Once upon a time when people could afford staff many realtively modest period homes had bells to ring. The idea seems positively alien to 21st century living but savvy parents have started to use the bells to call kids from on high for their mealtimes – one no-nonsense mum this writer knows had a fire bell she used to clang at mealtimes. This Butler bell is a much more discreet way to implement the same idea. It costs about ¤96, ex delivery, from UK-based Willow and Stone and requires a pull mechanism to operate it. The company’s brass-plated design costs about ¤135, ex installation. willowandstone.co.uk
