Sleeping solution

The Irish Times - Thursday - Property - - Interiors -

Built-in bunk beds can turn a dull bedroom into a place the children will want to spend time.

On a long wall the beds can be custom-designed to fill it in its entirety but it can work out expensive. Pictured is a much simpler solution. A partition frames two mattresses set end to end on a low plinth to aerate them with shelving on high for the kids’ reading material.

The back wall and ceiling have been painted in a rosy blush pink from Benjamin Moore’s Aura collection which costs ¤104 per gallon at MRCB. Its eggshell finish will be hardwearing enough to withstand most pillow fight shenanigans. Benjaminmoore.com; mrcb.ie The Land of Nod at Crate & Barrel has a breadth of stock on offer that is unparalleled in any other specialist store for kids. Its tents and teepee selection, includes Constellations (above) about ¤117, but also offers a modernist Palm Springs-inspired playhouse that most mid- century-loving adults would adore to call their own, ¤153, ex delivery, and a Jetaire VW-inspired camper style, about ¤180, ex delivery, that might just satisfy any cravings to go off en famille. There is a rocket-shaped one, about ¤135, a Dr Livingstone-inspired explorer’s tent, about ¤144, a skyscraper, about ¤46, and even a Gearhead garage playhouse, about ¤136. Adding battery-operated lights to unlit logs in bedroom fireplaces is a lovely styling touch that’s easy to replicate. Landofnod.com
