Brassed off with Jacob Rees-Mogg

Sir, – Europhiles should not worry about Jacob Rees-Mogg’s as­ser­tion that “the UK had no le­gal obli­ga­tion to pay the EU ‘a brass far­thing’ as it leaves” (De­nis Staunton, Lon­don Let­ter, Septem­ber 15th). Real far­things were ac­tu­ally made of bronze, whereas it is Mr Rees-Mogg’s neck which has more of a brass con­sis­tency. – Yours, etc,
