A chara, – Frank McNally muses on the ori­gins of the gen­teel Rath­mines ac­cent (An Ir­ish­man’s Diary, Septem­ber 7th).

Fre­quently found in Rath­mines and Rath­gar in ear­lier days, it was known as an Orr and Orr ac­cent. Its As­cen­dancy over­tones make it still much favoured on RTÉ (Awe Tee Eee). – Is mise,
