VALENTIA SUCCESS AT SEASON REGATTA FINALE:

ON Sunday, September 3, the final regatta of the South and Mid-Kerry Rowing calendar too place in Portmagee. The Liberator of Cahirsiven took first place in the Seine boat event, with Cnuicin second and Valentia third. The Liberator won the overall category award of the season, namely the Johnnie O’Mahony trophy, with a clean sweep of victory in all seven races. Having returned to South and Mid-Kerry rowing waters in 2016, after an absence since 2011, the Liberator also won the overall trophy last year.

The following are the overall results for the South and Mid-Kerry rowing year in the four-oar grades: Under 14 girls: Cromane: Leanne Sheehan, Katelyn McMahon, Cara Hayes, Aoilbhe Mangan, Maureen Duffy.

Under 14 mixed:Valentia: Amy Lyne (Cox), Dylan Kidd, Cian Dowd, Kevin O’Connor, Gearoid Healy.

Under 16 girls:Portmagee: David Hussey (Cox), Aoife Lynch, Sorcha Lynch, Cliona Murphy, Rachel Devane, Muireann Lynch (replacemen­t).

Under 16 Boys: Callinafer­cy: John Joe O‘Sullivan (Cox) Nathan Houlihan, Niall Murphy, Aidan McCarthy, Cormac Doyle.

Under 18 Girls: Valentia: Amy Lyne (Cox), Katie Trew, Aoife Daly, Roisin Galvin, Cara Coffey.

Under 18 Boys: Callinafer­cy: Kieran and John Joe O’Sullivan (Joint Coxes) Aaron Houlihan, Padraig O’Sullivan, Cian O’Sullivan, Killian Kerins.

Senior Ladies: Valentia: Adrian Fitzgerald (Cox), Ciara Lyne, Kate Griffin, Chloe Lyne, Amy Lyne.

Senior Men: Callinafer­cy: Kieran and John Joe O’Sullivan (Joint Coxes):Maurice Sheehan, Paul Sheehan, James Foley, James O’Sullivan.

The Portmagee regatta proved very successful for the Valentia club who achieved five first placings, one second two thirds and a fifth placing. What a memorable day it proved to be too for young Cox Amy Lyne of Cooil. She took part in nine races with much success being the Cox in eight boats and rowing in one.

Valentia won the overall club award for 2017, the club’s sixth year-in-a-row.
