Ploughing season gets underway in Abbeydorney
THE first of the winter’s big ploughing matches was signalled in Listowel on Friday where Buckley Agri presented the Abbeydorney Ploughing Society with their main sponsorship for the event, which is taking place on Sunday next, October 15 from 12noon.
Abbeydorney Ploughing Chairman Tommy McCarthy said the society was delighted with the sponsorship and are looking forward to a big day of it on Corridan’s farm in Ballysheen. Abbeydorney native Brendan Glavin will be home from Yorkshire with his Clydesdales, and Delia Slattery will be home all the way from Portland, Oregon, as special guest.
Delia is a daughter of the late, much-loved Joe Slattery, former Chairman of the Ploughing Society (from 1974 - 2016) who passed on to his eternal reward exactly a year ago.
A most appropriate dressed man and woman competition will also be held - with watches sponsored Billy Nolans; cleaning equipment sponsored by Mossie Leahy, agent for Chemical Warehouse; and food hampers from Garvey’s Supervalu, Tralee, amid the great prizes.
A gate prize of €100 sponsored by Kingdom Installations, Abbeydorney, will also be up for grabs helping to ensure a most exciting day for all comers, weather permitting of course.
