Stephanie inspires nation as she tells RTÉ’s Today Show of weightloss story
ABBEYFEALE woman Stephanie Smith’s incredible weightloss story captured the hearts of the nation when she appeared on The Today Show with Maura and Dáithí last week to share her journey and slimmeddown new look.
Stephanie lost an amazing 11 stone in recent years with the help of Weightwatchers in Abbeyfeale - under class leader and Duagh native Sandra Maher – in an achievement that saw her very nearly taking a national Weightwatchers title for her record.
It was a journey sparked by the heartbreaking discovery that her son Joe was being taunted at school aged just 9 over his mother’s weight.
“I joined because Joe was actually being bullied because of my appearance, he was being teased about it and that hit me really hard. I cried plenty of times, but it gave me the slapdown I needed,” Stephanie told The Kerryman recently. She embarked on the Weightwatchers plan with steely determination – in the knowledge her eating habits, which were about to change for good, were born of emotional needs.
Along with Joe and his twin sister Emma - both a massive source of support for their mom – Stephanie attended RTÉ last week for the filming of the show as she thrilled everyone in a stylish makeover. Sandra Maher, who travelled with her, said she was very proud of Stephanie: “Stephanie looked amazing with her new look, I am really proud of her weightloss success.”
