A NUM­BER of long-awaited projects right across the county are fi­nally in line to be re­alised after more than €868,000 in fund­ing was an­nounced for Kerry un­der the Town and Village Re­newal Scheme.

Widely wel­comed by lo­cal politi­cians last week, it is set to pro­vide for ev­ery­thing from new pub­lic toi­lets in Bally­bunion to a boost in broad­band of­fice space in Sneem.

Cathaoir­leach of Kerry County Coun­cil John Shea­han wel­comed the an­nounce­ment as ‘great news for Kerry’.

“This is great news for Kerry and is a very welcome in­vest­ment in com­mu­nity, en­ter­prise, in­fra­struc­ture and so­cial fa­cil­i­ties in the county. In all, 13 projects in towns and vil­lages have been ap­proved for in­vest­ment which will greatly en­hance those ar­eas,” Cllr Shea­han said.

Kerry County Coun­cil Chief Ex­ec­u­tive Moira Mur­rell mean­while said that the fund­ing al­lo­cated came about through then author­ity’s com­mit­te­ment to sourc­ing co-fund­ing for the projects listed un­der the bud­get.

The projects to ben­e­fit are: Ard­fert Pub­lic Toi­lets and Coach Park­ing Fa­cil­i­ties (€100,000); Bally­bunion, beach toi­lets and shop units (€100,000); Bal­ly­heigue en­hance­ment works and sig­nage (€55,600); Ca­her­civeen re­search and in­no­va­tion (€80,000);

Castleis­land re­fur­bish­ment of Roof and Tourist of­fice (€84,171.60); Din­gle Cre­ativ­ity and In­no­va­tion Hub (€56,000); Far­ran­fore ‘Pub­lic Realm and Street Scape’ (€40,000); Ken­mare her­itage en­hance­ment and per­ma­nent in­fra­struc­ture (€24,100); Kil­lor­glin Brand­ing and Mar­ket­ing Pro­ject (€64,480);

Lis­towel Eco­nomic Ac­tion Plan web Site (€40,000); Mill­town Youth Café, Re­fur­bish Youth Club, Pub­lic Toi­lets (€78,400); Rath­more en­hance­ment works (€100,000); Sneem skills reg­is­ter (€45,720).
