ON Friday, October 13, Jackie O’Sullivan’s bus of Portmagee transported a group of Valentia Islanders and some people from neighbouring areas to the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle Dinner Dance in the Gleneagle, Killarney.

The purpose of the journey was to represent the Valentia Community Hospital which benefited as a nominated charity for the 2017 cycle. The hospital is currently undergoing a major upgrade and extension and very much in need of funds. 2017 was the Hospital’s third year to benefit as a nominated Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle. It also benefited in 2014 and 2015. The amount raised in 2014 was £212.000, that of 2015 was £193.000 with the sum for 2017 being £76,000.

On the night, the Chairman of the Hospital Committee, PJ O’Sullivan, gratefully received this very significant third cheque from Tony Daly, Chairman of the Ring of Kerry Cycle Committee. He and the Hospital Committee would like to express their profuse and deep appreciaton to the Ring of Kerry Cycle Committee for their immense and vital financial aid in those three years. They also thank the cyclists, sponsors, stewards, caterers, medical personnel and all who helped in any way.
