Dwyer :‘Goals killed us’

- Timmy Sheehan

DONAL Dwyer is part of the Kilcummin management team, and obviously he was extremely disappointed. It’s not easy to reflect and offer one’s opinion in such trying circumstances, but, he was proud of the effort put in by everybody who now face the task of bouncing back together.

“It was disappointing, I don’t think anybody gave us a chance to be that close in the game at the start, so, we were there or thereabouts for most of it. The goals killed us, especially after us scoring the goal to go up, and concede one, that was a killer, a four point cushion just thrown away, all of a sudden, so, in that respect I suppose I was disappointed. High ball into the square, anything can happen, nobody is to blame, these things happen I suppose in games, the chances were there again for us if we had gone down with a bit more composure, we could have kicked a score or two that would have put them under pressure, but, we had them under pressure for a lot of the game, which, is great for us.

“Probably the bit of experience by O’Rahillys showed in the end they kicked their scores when they needed them at the right time. Again, nobody expected that from us, for a team like us, half depleted in ways, it was a good performance everybody gave it everything they had, so, we are proud of the performance, proud of the lads, they put in a great effort over the last couple of weeks, so hopefully they will keep it going, and won’t be too disappointed, next year is another year.

“I don’t have the answers (Championship structure), I don’t really have an opinion on it, it’s probably worth having a look at, a different approach, a different system, it is what it is, if there is a better system it should be implemented. For today, it doesn’t really matter to us, we are gone back to Intermediate, but look, hopefully it won’t take us too long to bounce back. Intermediate is tough, it’s hard to get out of there, but hopefully.”
