DEATHS

The death took place on October 2nd in Pittsburgh, USA of the late Bill Dowd, late of Coolbeha, aged 94. Bill was a former president of Ballydonog­hue GAA club. He is survived by his son Tom, the late Jack, daughters Kathy and Mary Beth, daughter-in-law, sonsin-law, grandchild­ren, nieces and nephews. He was predecease­d by his three brothers, Tom, Jackie and Jim. He is survived by his immediate family and by his nephew Tommy Coolbeha, nieces Mary and Nora Dowd, England, Mary Kilgallon (Coolkeragh), Helen Dowd (Urlee) and Hannah Devine (Newcastlew­est) and their extended families. Funeral ceremony was officiated by family friend Fr Tim Dowling (Coolard). Mass will be celebrated in St Thetresa’s Church, Ballydonog­hue at a later date.

The death has occurred of Ned Purtill, Rahoona, Ballybunio­n and late of Ballydonog­hue. Ned, who comes from a big sporting family, was a prominent figure in GAA and Greyhound circles throughout his life. His popularity was evident at the huge turnout on Sunday last at the removal from Lynch’s, Funeral Home, Ballybunio­n and again at Mass and burial in St John’s Cemetery on Monday. A guard of honour was provided by Ballydonog­hue, Beale and Shannon Rangers GAA Clubs.

He was predecease­d by his brother, John. Sympathy is extended to his wife, Maria, daughters, Mary, Joan and Kathleen, sons, Mike and Eddie, sisters, Kate, Peg and Bridget, brothers, Paddy, Mike, Willie, Jimmy, to their extended families, his many friends and relatives.

The death occurred unexpected­ly on Tuesday, October 17th of Neilie Riordan, Tullamore, Listowel. Sympathy is extended to his wife, Kit, son, Pat Joe, daughterin-law, Mary, his sister, Agnes, his grandchild­ren, great-grandson, his nieces, nephews and their extended families and his large circle of friends. May they rest in peace.

WALK FOR BREAST CANCER

Following on from the hugely successful 2016 Action Breast Cancer Campaign, Our annual walk for Action Breast Cancer Ireland will take place on Bank Holiday Monday 30th October 2017. We will walk over the North Road, down Rahela and back to the shop for refreshmen­ts afterwards. Refreshmen­ts served after walk. Remember The Irish Cancer Society is 95% volunteer funded. HURLING ALL STARS

The Kerry Hurling All Stars ceremony will take place in The Railway Bar, Lixnaw on this Saturday October 28th at 7.30 pm. The Kerry Hurling All Stars is organised to honour the club hurlers of Kerry and their families. Eight Ballyduff players, PJ O’Gorman, Paud Costello, Cathal Kearney, Mikey Boyle, Jack O’Sullivan, Pádraig Boyle, Gary O’Brien & Jack Goulding, have been nominated. Best of Luck to them all.

HALLOWEEN PARTY

A Hallowen Party & Disco for all primary school going children will take place in the Ballyduff Community Centre on this Saturday evening October 28th from 7.00pm 9.00pm. There will be prizes for Best Costume & Best Carved Pumpkin so dress up and bring your pumpkin along. Games on the night will include Pin the Nose of the Witch, Blind Man’s Buff, etc. Admission is €4

KERRY ASSOCIATIO­N LONDON

On Friday last the Kerry Associatio­n London hosted its annual Dinner and Dance at the world famous Crown Hotel in Criklewood. Liz Shanahan, a Castleisla­nd native, received the coveted Person of the Year award at the event in recognitio­n of her contributi­on to world health care.
