The Kerryman (North Kerry)

Hello to one of our most loyal readers

-

THIS week this scribe extends warm greetings to Kathleen Duffy(nee Pageon Murphy) of Moate in Westmeath who is originally of Cracow in Valentia. Kathleen likes to keep in touch with her old island home and is a regular reader of The Islandman page.

She is the daughter of the late Patrick ‘Pageon ‘Murphy, the renowned musician from Cracow who will always be synonymous with the local saying “when Pageon played the accordion in St Derarca’s Hall’’.

Her mother was Mollie O’Neill from Caragh Lake who came to Valentia in the 1920s and worked as Chief Cook in the Cable Station where she met her aforementioned husband, ‘Pageon’ Murphy, who also worked there.
