Cycle challenge won’t let weather beat it
WHILE numbers may been hit due to the impact of Storm Emma and other bad weather on people’s training schedules, the Two Lakes cycle challenge organiser Donal O’Reilly is choosing to look on the bright side of things.
The cycle, which took place on Saturday morning, attracted a hardy crowd on the day - with some travelling down from Dublin and Cork to take part in the event.
“It’s not ideal at all [the numbers] but that’s the way the weather falls some times and unfortunately, due to the bad weather, I think that a lot of people just couldn’t get the training in for it,” said Donal, who is also Deputy Principal of Killorglin Community College, talking to The Kerryman on Monday.
“As someone said to me, for every bad year you have, you might get three of four good ones, so we have to stick at it for next year and hope for the best; we managed to raise a €1,000 profit for the KCC from the day so that’s a big positive,” he continued.
“We are a well established cycle in the calendar at this stage and for the 65 people that did take part on the day, the feedback was that they enjoyed it, even the rain didn’t bother them,” Donal said.
The cycle, which left from the Community College had three route options available for cyclists - a 12km route for the younger members of the family, a 40km route and 60km route - routes which took in Caragh Lake, Blackstones Bridge, Lough Acoose, Glencuttane and/or Beaufort before arriving back at the school.
