On yer hydrobikes – 24 hour challenge set for Ballybunion

- By FERGUS DENNEHY

A DIFFERENT sort of charity event will be taking place in the Ballybunion Leisure Centre next week – all in aid of two worthy causes.

Kieran Kennelly, along with a hardy group of volunteers, will take part in a 24-hour hydrobike challenge - starting at 4pm on Friday March 23 - which will be in aid of the Nano Nagle School in Listowel and Kerry Parents and Friends.

There will be five hydrobikes set up in the water on the day and each bike will have someone cycling it for at least an hour – or more if they choose to – over the 24 hour challenge.

“We just wanted to do something different and something that had never really been done before. We have the bikes here and we figured we could use them and help raise money for charity in the process,” said organiser, Kieran Kennelly, speaking to

Tuesday.

“Raising money for charity is our main objective. The two groups that we have chosen, they’re very worthy causes. I know that the Kerry Parents The Kerryman on and Friends group are looking to buy a new bus so maybe we’ll be able to help out with that,” Kieran said.

Anyone looking to help out with the challenge can give Kieran a call on 087 2594298.
