Maurice Fitz gets top post in Coláiste na Sceilge
FORMER Kerry star Maurice Fitzgerald is the new principal of Coláiste na Sceilge and the Cahersiveen man is looking forward to taking up his new role in the autumn.
“To say I’m delighted would be an understatement as I’m privileged to take up this role. It’s a huge challenge but I feel privileged and excited about the job going forward,” Maurice said. Coláiste na Sceilge has close to 600 pupils drawn from across the south Kerry region. It’s a non-denominational and co-educational school run by the Kerry Education and Training Board. Maurice also paid tribute to the outgoing Principal, John O’Connor.
“Any comments about my new position would be remiss without passing on my best wishes to John O’Connor who has given great and dedicated service to Coláiste na Sceilge and the community. I want to wish him the very best in his retirement and I’m pretty sure that John won’t be too far from some role in education.” Maurice added: “We have outstanding and highly academic achievements through our students and those standards are supported by a very hardworking staff.”
