A 10,000ft leap of faith for the Kerry Hospice

- By FERGUS DENNEHY

FOR most people, jumping out of an aeroplane at 10,000ft is a rewarding enough experience; throw in the fact that you’ll be raising money for charity as you go, well that’s the icing on the cake.

This is the exact situation that Lispole’s Geraldine Ashe and West Kerry’s Neasa Ní Mhathúna find themselves in as they get set to take part in a fundraising skydive on September 1 for the Kerry Hospice Foundation.

This is not the first time that Geraldine has chosen to raise funds for the Hospice; it is a charity very close to her heart after her mother Cáit was cared for by the Palliative Care team at the hospital before she passed away in January 2016.

Geraldine and her family raffled off a heifer to raise funds for the palliative care team at University Hospital Kerry and this raised over €37,000.

This time, it was Neasa’s turn to choose a fundraising option and she decided that a skydive was the way to go and ever the loyal friend, Geraldine decided to do it with her.

“I’m not even thinking about it until the day comes,” Geraldine laughed, “it will be an amazing experience though,” she said.

“We are just hoping to raise as much money and awareness of the fantastic work that the Palliative Care Team are doing to care for the terminally ill,” Geraldine added.

The women have so far raised just over €410 out of their €1,000 goal online through their page with two months left to go.

Anyone looking to donate to the cause can do so by contacting the girls themselves at the ‘ Skydive for Kerry Hospice Foundation’ Facebook page where the link to their online fundraiser can be found.
