‘Up the village’ says delighted O’Sullivan

-

KILGARVAN man and team captain Donal O’Sullivan in him let out a roar of ‘Up the Village’ when asked about the significance of representing his club as Kerry Captain, but Donal O’Sullivan spoke of his joy at Kerry overcoming such a difficult encounter last Friday evening.

“Those two goals in the second-half were massive as well as what the subs that came on did for us. They worked just as hard as those who started and that’s something you desperately want on a night like this with such heat,” the Kerry U-20 Captain said.

O’Sullivan agreed that it was all to play for at halftime, but there was no panic in the Kerry dressing room when they went underneath the steps of the Austin Stack Park stand.

“It was all positive vibes that we could still win it despite Cork having the breeze in the second-half. Dara’s black card spurred us alright I would agree in that we had to keep working but again the contribution that we got from the bench was a big factor,” the All-Ireland Minor All-Star said.

In assessing the Munster campaign in general, O’Sullivan doesn’t believe that Limerick and Waterford were as bad as the final scorelines in the two matches made them out to be.

“I just think the work we put into our preparations made the final scoreline what it was in those games. Limerick and Waterford weren’t bad sides it’s just we had so much work done than them I feel.

“I must credit our physios though for keeping us fresh during this run of games, I think that’s why we need to have such a strong panel that can contribute especially with this run of games in a short period,” the team captain said.

O’Sullivan is a player who missed out on minor this year with the drop in age, but feels this experience with the Under 20s is better in some respects. “Yeah it was disappointing to miss out on another year with the minors, but this is probably better in some ways especially when you are chosen as the captain of the team.”
