Templenoe take a big step towards safety with win over Beaufort

-

Beaufort 1-8 Templenoe 0-13

PLAYED the previous week, Templenoe took a big move towards safety with a win over Premier Junior Champions Beaufort on the Mid Kerry side’s home turf as they held off a late surge by the home side to try and claim something from proceedings.

Jonathon Kissane had scored the first point of proceedings for Beaufort after 90 seconds and even though it took Templenoe six minutes before they got their first score from Adrian Spillane they would dominate the second quarter of the first period after Beaufort had led 0-3 to 0-2.

A brace from Killian Spillane and a Stephen O’Sullivan point made it 0-5 to 0-3 at half-time before Nathan Breen made it a one point game after the restart. A further three points from Killian Spillane along with points from Gavin Crowley and Pat Spillane Jnr put the Kenmare District side ahead by six at the three-quarter mark.

A Fergal Hallissey point and a goal from Jeremiah O’Sullivan had the hosts back in contention, however, as Ian McGuillicuddy and Breen levelled the scores at 0-10 to 1-7 with five minutes left.

A brace from Brian Crowley and Killian Spillane’s sixth and final point was enough for Templenoe to get the win, a James O’Reilly point Beaufort’s only reply as they drop into the relegation zone now and face an important trip to St Marys in their next encounter.
