Fleadh cheoil chiarraí has resulted in the branch bringing home no less than 141 medals so we have to once again acknowledge the fantastic talents, continuous work and enthusiasm of all our young members and a huge thanks to all the parents and our comhaltas teachers and volunteers who keep the whole factory running efficiently. When our teenagers go out into the world with interest and skills in traditional music, song and dance and our Irish language and sometimes carry these talents to various parts of the world, then all the years of learning, fleadh cheoils ect are worth it all. And so fleadh na Mumhan 15th/22nd July is next to look forward to and practice continues in the ceolann to prepare the solos, duets, trios, ceilí bands and groups that have qualified to represent the branch. For all your up to date comhaltas news it’s www.kerrycomhaltas. ie, kerryccé facebook page and tweet @kerrycomhaltas. Slán tamall.

DAN PADDY ANDY FESTIVAL

Dan is 21. One of Kerry’s longest running festivals, the four-day Dan Paddy Andy Festival in Lyreacrompane will be held for the 21st time over the August Bank Holiday weekend. It starts with the Traditional Ceilí on Friday night, August 3 with Tim Joe and Anne O’Riordan providing the music once again.

Saturday afternoon, August 4, is Dog Show time and this is followed by Kids Party Club with magic, puppets and balloons. Saturday night it’s Marquee dancing to Paddy O’Brien and his mighty band from Waterford. Paddy is one of the stars of Irish Country music and had a massive hit with ‘Marion’s Rose’. Stevie Donegan will have warmed up the crowd before Paddy O’Brien comes on stage.

Day three, Sunday August 5, gets off to a flying start with a 5/10K Walk/Run starting at 11am. This year the funds raised go to Enable Ireland. Ger’s Animal Farm will be on hand for the kids and the young at heart from noon. At 3pm Marquee dancing gets underway to the strains of the Eddie Lee Band. The famous Dan Paddy Andy Festival Waltzing Competition has been moved to this time and it is expected that there will be great competition for the lovely trophies which are sponsored again this year by O’Connor Hardware and Farm Supplies, Duagh. At 9.30 on Saturday evening we have an item called Humour and Song. This will feature Peter Casey from Clare, one of the hilarious storytellers from the Irish Rambling House Show and Willie Relihan from Cork, a fabulous balladeer. This event is not to be missed and will be followed by Marquee Dancing to Pat McKenna and Glenshane Country -- all the way from Derry! Pat is the man who has had a series of hit songs in recent times including the =91Wind on the Hill’.

August Bank Holiday Monday it’s a case of off to the bog at 11am with the ever-popular Bog Walk. Register at Festival Marquee from 10.15am - Adult €8 and Child €3) You will have a chance to relive olden times with some turf cutting with a sleán, tea in the bog as well as a tune or a song. Then there are five hours of Marquee Dancing to Mike Condon and to Mike Fitzgerald & Southern Pride=85 and if you want any more after that you will have to come back next year.

This is our 21st Festival and we would like to make it the best yet. We would appreciate some sponsorship form local businesses all of whom will be acknowledges in the Festival Brochure. Please note that the Brochure will be going to the printer on Friday June 13.
