19 days without rain for Valentia weather station

VALENTIA Observator­y had not recorded any rainfall this month, according to statistics up to Monday, July 9.

Rainfall was last recorded by the weather station on June 20, meaning 19 consecutiv­e rainless days have now been logged by the south Kerry observator­y.

The lowest monthly rainfall recorded by the station was more than 50 years ago, with just 2.3 millimetre­s falling during February of 1965.

The highest temperatur­e recorded so far this month was 23.9 degrees Celsius, logged on both July 2 and 3.

It follows a month of extraordin­ary stats recorded by the station last month.

June’s mean temperatur­e was 15.3 degrees Celsius, matching the previous June record set back in 1940. On June 28, he mercury hit 28.4 degrees Celsius, the hottest temperatur­e in 27 years.
