19 days without rain for Valentia weather station
VALENTIA Observatory had not recorded any rainfall this month, according to statistics up to Monday, July 9.
Rainfall was last recorded by the weather station on June 20, meaning 19 consecutive rainless days have now been logged by the south Kerry observatory.
The lowest monthly rainfall recorded by the station was more than 50 years ago, with just 2.3 millimetres falling during February of 1965.
The highest temperature recorded so far this month was 23.9 degrees Celsius, logged on both July 2 and 3.
It follows a month of extraordinary stats recorded by the station last month.
June’s mean temperature was 15.3 degrees Celsius, matching the previous June record set back in 1940. On June 28, he mercury hit 28.4 degrees Celsius, the hottest temperature in 27 years.
